The services were launched by RTC vice-chairman and managing director AK Khan and Cyberabad police commissioner CV Anand at Wave Rock and Q-City in Gachibowli on Tuesday.
The initiative was taken up by the Cyberabad police in coordination with APSRTC, APIIC and others to ensure security and convenience of IT employees, especially women. DCP (traffic) Avinash Mohanty said that in the wake of recent rapes and other crimes, there were a series of deliberations on making IT corridors safe for people working there and one of the suggestions was to provide public transport. APIIC has provided three bus parking areas for RTC at Wave Rock, Q City and Inorbit Mall.
Anand said they were adopting a five-pronged approach to ensure safety and security in IT corridors, starting with providing public transport which will be especially useful to women.
“We also plan to regulate private transport vehicles. Cabs and autos will have identity boards. There will be more visible policing and the number of check-posts will go up from five to nine. IT patrol vehicles will ply and police personnel will be posted at ORR toll gates.
Anand said the APIIC would fund installation of CCTV cameras and command control rooms.
Khan said 250 more buses, some of them AC, would be pressed into service depending on the patronage for the 40 buses launched now. “We are not looking for profits but we don’t want losses either. And if companies ask for our bus services, we are willing to provide them, Khan said and appealed to IT employees to utilise the bus services.
